20XX

The Playful Pixel

Player Count: 100
[date and time]

A megagame of near-future geopolitical intrigue, 20XX challenges teams of players to strategically deploy their government’s military, scientific, diplomatic, and intelligence assets in order to navigate their respective nations through the increasingly turbulent 21st century. What will it take for you and your allies to overcome the emerging crises and what desperate choices might your enemies make to ensure they are the ones who survive? Part role-playing game, part digital simulation, 20XX players use their own smartphones to issue commands to a networked simulation that keeps track of the game’s many interdependent parts. By leveraging technology but letting it fade into the background, 20XX allows players to focus on the fun of large-scale, face-to-face social interaction within a more structured and engaging mechanical sandbox.

Power to the People!

A surprise landslide victory has heralded the left-wing Socialist Party into 10 Downing and now they plan to enact every single one of their radical (and sometimes not-so-radical) manifesto pledges- but manifestos are one thing, parliamentary politics are another.  Party Infighting now threatens to tear the party apart while shadowy elements of the military, intelligence agencies, and civil service plot to secure the status quo. Can the new Socialist Government fight off the entrenched British “Establishment” while also securing consensus within their own ranks?

Power to the People is a 30+ player gaming event of British propriety, coalition building, Cold War mania, media hysteria, parliamentary politics, and fighting the establishment in 1980s Great Britain.

The setting for Power to the People is inspired by the novel A Very British Coup by Chris Mullin, which was adapted into a mini-series in 1988 by the BBC and is now available on Amazon Prime, and Channel 4’s website but watching the mini-series or reading the book is not required or necessarily even encouraged.

Power to the People is a “megagame in a box” designed by Jim Wallman of Stone Paper Scissors.  You can purchase the digital files and the license to run this and other games at their website. While some of the art assets will be changed for the event, no game mechanics will be changed.

It is the 27th Century. After a catastrophic attack on humanity, one battleship and a few civilian vessels must fight to survive, govern themselves and maintain order, as they flee from their pursuers.Den of Wolves is a game about difficult political, military and survival choices in a long-term crisis scenario.

Players will take on the roles of starship captains, officers, and engineers, as well as politicians and military personnel. The game has a focus on managing resources, as well as various units and assets – however, talking and negotiating with other players will be crucial in order to achieve success. The game also seeks to represent political and military systems, and their decisions, and so players should expect some political simulation.

The end of the Orthodoxy came suddenly. A spark of violence seemed to light a bonfire as all the component kingdoms of the factious empire unleashed their stockpiled military might to settle ancient grudges. Within a decade, the once-mighty Orthodoxy was reduced to a tattered group of fugitives.

The next generation are now mustering for the recolonization of galactic core, its planets full of abandoned riches, and Terra Nova, the ancient seat of rulership. Who will claim the right of dominion and bring the next golden age to the Galaxy?

In this Twilight Imperium-inspired megagame, players take on unique roles but compete as a team to secure the galactic throne for their faction and declare themselves the rightful heirs to Empire.

Build & Destroy

Player Count: 50
[date and time]

In a distant future, a generation ship carrying the remnants of civilization as we know it cruises through space on a course for Earth 2. During her passage through the pthelta quadrant a mysterious anomaly has paralyzed the ship’s mega thrusters. Build up your space base to survive as the anomaly grows increasingly unstable. Race against the other teams to find an escape! Sabotage or be sabotaged!

In this game, players will build cities using ~2,000 kapla bricks, seating is available for those who are uncomfortable standing for 45m – 1h. About the artists: Students from Mason Gross School of the Arts teamed up with The Adventure Society to explore the intersection of game design and live performance. This experience is one half of the outcome of their collaboration. It’s companion piece, Live Action Pocket Monster Snap recently debuted at Bit Bash Chicago.

Lucidian

Daniel Ames, Caroline Porter, and Dalton Gray

Player Count: 36
[date and time]

Leap into the future and half-a-galaxy away. A fast-spreading disease threatens your colony’s survival. The only way to avoid extinction: join with teams from other colonies, traveling into space to mine a life-saving material found in the Lucidian asteroid belt.

Each team features a Navigator executing quick actions (piloting a virtual mining rig), an Engineer hustling to maintain and upgrade their rig’s capabilities (circuit-building challenges), an Analyst sifting through information to guide mining choices (puzzle-solving, code-cracking), a Councilor negotiating with other teams (diplomacy, dealmaking), and a Leader holding the team together (wrangling cats). Players coordinate with teammates and with other teams while dealing with an unforgiving and unstable mining environment.

Can you gather enough material to save your home colony before time runs out? Past players have described their Lucidian experience as intense, fun, and “like living through an action-adventure movie”.

Urban Nightmare

Player Count: 100
[date and time]

In Urban Nightmare, city, state, and federal officials work together with corporations and other survivors to fight the zombie menace. Aside from the zombies, cities must be protected from riots, fires, and other threats. With research, strategy, and good old-fashioned combat, you can triumph over the task laid before you. Throughout the game, you will also be working towards your own personal goals. If society survives the night, elections will be held, and new officials will be chosen. Maybe a mayor who did great during the zombie crisis could make a great governor, or even president.

However, none of this matters if the zombies destroy society as we know it. Work together, fight hard, and ….. SURVIVE!

Earth 2047 :: SETI has picked up a strong radio signal from another arm of the Milky Way. Based on its pattern, it has to be intelligent life. First Contact!

The Venkari (pronounced “Ven-CAR-E”) are warning us about an evil species called the Drox.  The Drox are some sort of DNA elitists hellbent on purifying the universe…. and their spreading towards Earth!

The Venkari have (apparently) come to our aid. Due to their distance from us, they’ve chosen to send digital blueprints of some critical technology, since they can’t physically get to us in time. The first two digital blueprints are for a Jump GATE and a Jump SHIP. Navigation and logistics in space will be challenging, because we’ve never really had to do it before…… Better learn quickly.

Watch the Skies!

Player Count: 102
[date and time]

The UK megagame classic, Wath The Skies! by Jim Wallman returns to GenCon for it’s fifth year! Take on the role of a Head of State, Scientific Director, UN Ambassador , Military Commander, National Diplomat, Media Correspondent, or the Extraterrestrials as you determine the outcome of this clash of worlds and minds.

VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE - BLOOD FEUD

Player Count: 8 – 32
[date and time]

With the rise of the Second Inquisition, New York City has become more dangerous than usual.  Vampires and humans clash in the night, and you must use your cunning, wit, and charm to forge alliances, make enemies, and thrive under the cover of darkness. Your kinfolk will not always be around to back you up, so who do you trust and what do you tell them? Your survival hangs in the balance!

Blood Feud combines the best elements of megagaming and boardgaming to create a wholly unique Mega Board Game experience. The shorter morning events utilize streamlined Starter rules while the longer evening events will feature Storyteller driven narratives. No experience or materials are required, so bring your friends for an adventure you’ll never forget!
